We have both girls enrolled at Credale School of Art for the past few weeks. They have been going there every Saturday for couple hours. It has been wonderful to see how Kelly enjoys working on her painting and she has created some beautiful work. Allison is not totally excited about painting, but has also created some good work. Kelly's cupcake Christmas tree.. Allison is doing a self portrait during this class.
There are many art festivals in Orlando this time of the year. Actually, every weekend, there is a art festival at downtown Orlando. Winter Park art festival always draws lot attention and artists from all over the country. In comparison, Sanford art festival is a much smaller and has a lot community feel. Kelly has growing more interests in jewelry making. We have decided to help her start her first business.. So, we took the opportunity to visit different form of art and artists. It was not disappointing. We saw many craft demonstrations. One artist creates all his art by using coffee. Kelly is mostly interested in Jewry making and spent a lot time visiting each booth and talking to them. I think she really has a heart in it.

It is nothing better then spend a hot Florida day at the beach. April is a busy month for Florida with all the Spring breakers. Our favorite hotel was booked, so we moved to the only thing that was available on the beach. The hotel was very disappointing, but the beach was not. We watched the one of the most beautiful sunset, saw a group of dolphins playing in the ocean, finished a bottle of scotch and couple bottles of wine with friends under the stars.. Kelly was away at a girl scout trip, so Allison got to play with Kelly's friend whole weekend. She was a happy girl.
Seem like yesterday, she was a pretty little daisy. This week, she passed the bridge and become a brownie.Daisy is a such wonderful experience for her. She is with a group of wonderful friends, they learned so much together and had so much fun along the way. She is now a confident brownie now. I can't wait to see if she can sell cookies next year..

This girl is good at many things, especially math. She is a self-claimed math girl. She always gets A in math. She gets perfect math score in her cold FCAT test. So, when she came home from her private school tryout day, and showed me a math sheet only 1/3 done, I was shocked. I couldn't believe it. I asked her why did she finish it, she said she doesn't know how to do it. It is not difficult math, 3 digits addition with grouping, she has done hundreds of them. They she said "Mom, I know how to solve the problem, I just don't know how to do it their way." After asking couple more questions, I realized it is Singapore Math that public school doesn't use, and she is not used to it. It reminded me when I first moved to U.S., my college math professor always amazed how fast I can come up with the correct answers. That's how I learned it in China. Singapore Math. So, five minutes later, we were sitting at a McDonald restaurant, I told her first Singapore math strategy, and she quickly got it.. and really into it. She is going to a very good private school, and I sure hope she will benefit from it. Today, Amazon delivered four Singapore Math books. It is going to be a fun summer. One thing I am sure, there is nothing in math can stop her. She is a math girl. And, I can't wait to turn her into a Singapore math girl!

This weekend is all about flowers and girls in a big hat.. Often people ask me why I am interested in photography.. I can't really explain. Whenever I see something, I see a picture. Then I will frame it into a beautiful one. So, when I see my little girl put on my big hat, I knew I need to pick up my camera.

We have been debating this for a while, actually for couple years now. Public education vs. private education. I have been working in the public education area for many years, I know we have many excellent and dedicated educators that totally devoted to their students. I know school administrators are doing their best to provide best education. But, like any other public sections, education got cut and resources are cut. Then, there is Kelly's personality. A super smart intelligent creative child, not into academic, but always get good grades. What do we need to do to help her excel? She has a very inquisitive mind and loves to explore everything around her. She loves art. She loves math. She loves sports. Then, she doesn't like to sit there read just for the sick of reading. I know she will blossom in a right environment. Unfortunately I don't think public school is providing that environment to her. So, after much research and discussion, we have decided to send her to a really good private school. The school offers a college-preparatory Prek to 12th grade education with exceptional academic programs. The program has strong focus in math, writing, arts, and athletics. It is an international private school with affiliated schools all over the world. Chinese and Spanish are provided at the school. We don't know if this will be the answer for her, but we are hoping the school will provide a challenging environment for her curious mind. Time will tell.
